Sturt Desert Rose
Sturt Desert Rose is part of my Red Earth series, depicting plants of Australia’s Northern Territory. I encountered these plants while walking the Larapinta and Jatbula trails.
Sturt Desert Rose (Gossypium sturtianum), the floral emblem of the Northern Territory, is a surprisingly lush sight in dry creek beds along the Larapinta Trail.
The vase is made from smooth red clay, painted with underglaze and carved to create the botanical design. It is clear glazed inside and outside. The glaze gives the clay a darker tone that contrasts with the colourful plant.
Dimensions: H 9 x W 9.5 cm
