Snow Gum
Snow Gum is part of my Sandbelt series, showing at Glen Eira City Gallery from 24 July - 24 August. The Sandbelt vessels feature the flora of the Sandbelt region in south-east Narrm/Melbourne (Boonwurrung Country). I walked over 100 kilometres on a series of urban hikes, visiting areas of remnant vegetation across the region.
Snow Gum will be shipped or available for collection in late August.
Although best known as the iconic eucalypt of Australia’s alpine country, Snow Gum (Eucalyptus paucifolia) is also native to the Sandbelt region. I love its pendulous leaves, pink stems and balls of white blossoms.
This medium vase is coil-built in white clay. The surface is painted with multiple layers of underglaze and carved to create the botanical design. It is clear-glazed on the inside and on the plant only, leaving the white background bare and matte.
