River Red Gum
River Red Gum is part of my Sandbelt series, showing at Glen Eira City Gallery from 24 July - 24 August. The Sandbelt vessels feature the flora of the Sandbelt region in south-east Narrm/Melbourne (Boonwurrung Country). I walked over 100 kilometres on a series of urban hikes, visiting areas of remnant vegetation across the region.
River Red Gum will be shipped or available for collection in late August.
The River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) is an iconic Australian species, towering up to 45 metres tall along inland waterways.
This large vase is coil-built in white clay and is oval in cross-section. The surface is painted with multiple layers of underglaze and carved to create the botanical design. It is clear-glazed on the inside and on the plant only, leaving the white background bare and matte.
Dimensions: H 45 x W 28 x D 19 cm
