Kapok
Kapok is part of my Red Earth series, depicting plants of Australia’s Northern Territory. I encountered these plants while walking the Larapinta and Jatbula trails.
Kapok (Cochlospermum fraseri) is native to north-west Australia. Its yellow flowers greeted me at Leliyn (Edith Falls) at the end of the Jatbula Trail.
The small vase is made from smooth red clay, painted with underglaze, and carved to create the botanical design. A clear glaze is applied to the inside and to the plant only, leaving the red clay background bare.
Dimensions: H 15 x W 8.5 cm
