Black Wattle
Black Wattle is part of my Sandbelt series, showing at Glen Eira City Gallery from 24 July - 24 August. The Sandbelt vessels feature the flora of the Sandbelt region in south-east Narrm/Melbourne (Boonwurrung Country). I walked over 100 kilometres on a series of urban hikes, visiting areas of remnant vegetation across the region.
Due its large size, Black Wattle must be collected locally or shipped via a specialist art delivery service. Please contact me for a quotation.
Black Wattle (Acacia mearnsii) is an important woodland species which grows quickly, stabilises and nourishes the soil, and provides food and shelter to many mammals, birds, insects and invertebrates.
This large vase is coil-built in white clay. The surface is painted with indigo underglaze and carved to create the botanical design. It is clear-glazed inside. The outside is unglazed, with a slight sheen to the indigo plant and a matte clay background.
Dimensions: H 31 x W 37 x D 37 cm
