While walking in the tropical Top End of the Northern Territory, I saw masses of these peachy orchid-like blooms (Utricularia) growing in shallow pools along a creek bed. This medium vase depicts the flowers and their watery environment.
The wide, curvaceous pot is coil-built in smooth white clay. The surface is carved and painted with underglaze and copper slip to create the botanical design. Clear and green glazes become turquoise where they mingle.
