Plumbago and Pokemon

Until my son was 6, he didn’t like drawing at all. We were one of those families who brought home cereal box sculptures from kinder, never paintings.

Then I told him about scientific illustration – looking at something and drawing it accurately, rather than imagining a scene. He sat down and drew the plumbago outside his bedroom window, and he’s loved drawing ever since.

For a while he drew scorpions, frogs, and labelled diagrams of mice. Now it’s all about a different type of creature – Pokemon. Amazing the encyclopaedic quantity of information a motivated 8-year-old can retain. And since his sister’s picture went up on this blog a few weeks ago, he wants his up too…
